About COCAFIL
COCAFIL is a mode-matching based CAD suite for accurate, fast analysis and synthesis of waveguide coupled-cavity filters for wireless communications, local multi-point distribution systems (LMDS), microwave/millimeter-wave systems, and radar systems. Any RF, microwave, and antenna engineers will need
COCAFIL and find it useful and powerful in their filter design. System engineers in these areas will need
COCAFIL and use it to generate quick filter designs and specifications. RF/microwave/antenna educational and research professionals will also need
COCAFIL and use it to demonstrate, implement, investigate, and verify filter designs.
COCAFIL's
Features
1. Accurate and
fast.
2. Synthesis with optimization.
3. Handles a variety of metal coupling structures, such as transverse strips (diaphragms), longitudinal strips (E-plane strips), rectangular/square posts,
and circular posts.
4. Automatically determines the required number of filter sections and optimizes their dimensions once a user enters his/her filter specifications.
5. Analyzes and synthesizes both bandpass and pseudo-highpass filters with equal ripple response in the pass band.
Design
and Verification
COCAFIL has been used to analyze and synthesize many design examples and validated by corresponding measurements. Presented below are just two of them.

Fig. 1. Calculated insertion losses of a C-band high-pass filter together with Young and Schiffman's measured ones. Dimensions: a=34.85mm, 2t=0.508mm, w1=w7=4.125mm, w2=w6=5.26mm, w3=w5=6.02mm, w4= 6.325mm, d1=d6=15.392mm, d2=d5=16.082mm, d3=d4=16.612mm.

Fig. 2. Calculated and measured insertion losses of an X-band filter using square posts. Dimensions: a=22.86mm, 2t1=2t4=w1=w4=1.598mm, 2t2=2t3=w2=w3=4.373mm, d1=d3=15.755mm, d2=16.597mm.
